Electric Earthquake “Superman” Theatrical Cartoons - May 15, 1942

Not unusually for closely related creative partnerships, the Fleischer brothers – Max and Dave – grew increasingly on the outs, the longer they worked together. Before the Superman cartoons had even debuted, the pair had officially washed their hands of one another, and Paramount had effectively been operating the Fleischer studio as a distinct but subordinate entity.

In May of 1942, Paramount’s contract with the Fleischers had officially expired, and the larger studio chose to rebrand the entity as Famous Studios, promoting former Fleischer studios higher-ups – Sam Buchwald, Isadore Sparber and Seymour Kneitel – to fulfill Max and Dave’s prior roles within the organization.
