Apply the ice to the affected area two or three times per day for 10 to 20 minutes, and this may help you feel better. An ice pack or a bag of frozen vegetables can be used for this purpose.

Put heat on any back spasms. Make a warm compress or get a heating pad and just relax. It can soothe the muscles and relax you. Stress can be a large part of back pain, so just laying down and trying to relax can end up doing wonders for you.

In truth, a soft mattress will not help you to maintain your posture through the night while a firm mattress gives your back the support it needs to repair itself.

Wear comfortable low-heeled shoes. The stress that high-heeled shoes put on your ankles and legs is transmitted up your body all the way to your hips and spine. Comfortable shoes will allow you to stand and walk more naturally, which can greatly reduce your incidence of back pain the next morning.

Listen to your body at all times. If you are moving furniture, and you start to experience back pain, you need to stop what you are doing. Back pain will not get better if you ignore it, it will only get worse. Take a break and give your body a rest.

You need to watch what position you sleep in as well if your back is hurting. Consult your physician, and see what he or she recommends. It is often recommended to sleep on your side with your legs curled up slightly. It is also said often that it is not a good idea to sleep on your back.

Treating back pain should start with the simple measures, such as heat and anti-inflammatory medicines. Sometimes all you will need to do is rest for a couple of days. Don't hesitate to alleviate some back pain with over-the-counter medications that lower inflammation, including ibuprofen and acetaminophen. You should also try heat and ice therapy. Alter between both temperatures to sooth back muscles.
